Happy Monday! I am finally back with some new content after some fun travels and, as I promised, some exciting news. On Saturday, I celebrated my first blogging anniversary. It’s so rewarding seeing myself here a year later because I was so terrified to start a blog that I almost decided not to. This experience has been such a whirlwind and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It feels like I have been blogging for way longer than a year because it has become a huge part of my life.
As I’ve probably mentioned in every single post recently, Jake graduates in May (I couldn’t be more excited!). With Match Day only 2 months and 1 day away, it has really hit me that I am about to not be a med school wife anymore.
Lately, my most asked question is what happens to “Life Of A Med School Wife” when he graduates? I have hinted and even shared in this Q&A that I would change the name in the future. I also did an Instagram story with two different blog name options to vote on. Today is FINALLY the day. It’s with great excitement that I announce, “Life Of A Med School Wife” will now be called, “A Byers Guide.”
Why I picked today to change my name
As I mentioned above, I knew a name change would be in my close future. I just didn’t know the right time and kept dragging my feet. I didn’t want to just randomly change my blog name, but I also didn’t want to wait until Jake’s graduation. Graduation is all about him and I didn’t want to try to be the center of attention (although that wouldn’t be possible).
After connecting with a local OKC blogger, Tasha, in an OKC blogging group, I had mentioned I really wanted to transfer my blog to WordPress.org. When we were talking she told me that is something she does for other bloggers. I knew I was going to do it, but kept procrastinating on scheduling her. When I finally told her I was ready to book her, her first available date was January 13 due to her busy schedule. It’s funny how God’s plan works perfectly because January 13th was my 1st blog anniversary. I immediately knew this was the perfect date and knew why I was dragging my feet. I’m a huge believe that everything happens for a reason, so how perfect was starting a new chapter of my blog on my 1st blog anniversary?
If you’ve read our engagement story here, you know I am a really symbolic person. Jake proposed to me on graduation to symbolize a new chapter. I fully believe this is a new chapter that I’m so excited to start. You can read how I started my blog here.
Story Behind The Name
Coming up with a new blog name was another HUGE challenge I had. I wanted my new name to be meaningful and not just something random. I’ve loved being “Life of a Med School Wife,” but I wanted my new name to have my own identity although I am obsessed with my husband. This is why I didn’t do “Life Of A Med Wife” or “Life Of A Doctor’s Wife,” per many suggestions.
As you may or may not know, my last name is Byers, pronounced just like the word “buyers”. I wanted to do a play on words with Byers and buying, since I primarily blog about fashion.
My cousin Katherine had just transferred her and her husband’s blog to WordPress.org. I told her I was I planning to transfer mine and wanted to change my name, but couldn’t come up with “the one”. Katherine is super creative and an English teacher, so within minutes she came up with a list of several wonderful names to decide from. When she mentioned “A Byers Guide To Fashion,” I knew it was the direction I was wanting to go. I cut the “To Fashion” out, since I didn’t want to limit myself, as I hope to share some personal posts this year. Thank you so much, Katherine! You can find her and her husband Brandon’s blog here.
A Little About The Dress
Okay…..so I’m a fashion blogger, so of course I have to share a little about this outfit. When coming up with an outfit for this shoot, I knew I wanted to wear something special and dressy. This dress pictured was what I wore to our rehearsal dinner. I got a heck of a deal on it at Kate Spade. I thought this was perfect for my big announcement. It’s funny because Jake took these pictures and I tested him and asked where I wore it. He guessed right on the first try; smart man!
Wow that was a lot! Thank you for reading. I just want to say thank you to everyone who reads my blog. Like I said earlier, it was a huge deal for me to put myself out there and it has really helped me grow as a person. If you want to do something, I really encourage you to take a leap and do it!
Stay tuned for my upcoming travel posts. I am mapping my content out for the next few months. Would you want me to do a reflection on what I learned in my first year blogging, or what other options would you like to see? Make sure to subscribe to my new blog here.
