You may remember from this blog post that our neighbor’s tree fell on our house on Valentine’s Day. It caused a lot of damage to our roof, breakfast room, and kitchen, and it has been a slow/frustrating process. Almost two months later, I am so relieved to announce that our kitchen/breakfast room remodel is FINALLY completed. I am so excited by how it turned out that I had to take a break from my Europe posts to share the kitchen remodel.
With the inside remodel, our breakfast room ceilings had to be completely replaced, and since our backsplash and fireplace tile got damaged, we replaced those as well. We also had to replace our roof and do a lot of repairs on the outside. The contractors finished the inside of the house on Friday and just have a little bit of work left to do outside today. Since our backsplash tile and fireplace materials were not salvageable, it gave us the opportunity to completely change the look of our kitchen. I have always been drawn to light and bright interiors, so this gave me the change to lighten up the spaces. When we first bought the house, the kitchen was dark green. We painted it a light gray on move in day to soften it up. When the tree fell, I decided to pick a white herringbone tile to really make the room feel lighter and give it a little bit more of a modern look. I feel like the backsplash has completely changed the look of the room. It’s almost like we moved into a new house. The pictures don’t do it justice! When we first looked at the house, I had actually talked about tiling around the window, but decided it would be too much work then. I am so glad that we did it when we got the chance.
It only took the contractors two weeks to fix our house once they finally started working; the insurance company was the one who really slowed us down (State Farm needs to step up their game). I am just so glad everything is mostly done. Honestly, it’s been a rough 2 months. Once everything happened, they had to move all our breakfast room furniture into our main room, so we lived in a mess the past 2 months. If you’re local to Birmingham, I cannot say enough good things about our contractors, ServPro. They did such a beautiful job. I was so worried you would be able to tell where they replaced the ceilings since our floor plan is so open, but everything is seamless, with not even the slightest indication of where the damage was at. I am amazed at how great of a job they did.
I cannot wait to share our breakfast room once I finish decorating it. We decided to completely change the look of the fireplace and add a mantle, so now I am deciding on decor for the mantle. I also might paint our breakfast room table to lighten it up to go with the room better.
P.S. I have two final Europe posts that I will be sharing soon (A Full Guide to Paris/London).
So beautiful Courtney!! I love the end result! You guys did such a good job picking the backsplash!

Hey Terri! I am sooo happy to have it complete. Yes, insurance companies really do. I am just glad it’s done now. thank you so much. I am very happy with how it turned out. I will share our breakfast room in the next couple of months. I still need to decorate and am slow at decorating haha. Have a nice day. Xo-Courtney
It is okay Courtney to be slow at decorating that way you can get it just right. Did you get to Notre Dame Cathedral when you were in Paris? Have a nice afternoon and evening Terri xo.
