Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Today is actually my first full month of blogging, so I want to say thank you for all of the support. I’m having a blast.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be fun to share a little about my husband and I’s love story. I’m sharing how we met, how we got engaged and our wedding details. Enjoy!
How we met:
Little did I know, on March 27, 2010 my life would change forever and I would meet my soulmate.
I was a freshman in college at Oklahoma State University and it was “Greek Discovery Day.” Each year all of the sororities on campus do what is called Greek Discovery Day to promote Greek life to the upcoming freshman class. It’s kind of like a mock “rush” or “recruitment” as we’re supposed to call it.
After Greek Discovery Day festivities are over, many of the fraternities throw parties to celebrate. My sorority was told by our Recruitment Chair not to go out on this night. Greek Discovery Day parties are the best, so some of my sorority sisters and I decided to break the rules and we went out anyway! We went to a few low-key fraternity parties in hopes of not getting caught. At one of the parities I recognized a handsome man across the room. I was afraid to talk to him, but after building up the courage we talked. We knew of each other, but didn’t know each other. We immediately hit it off and became the best of friends.
When Monday rolled around… we got caught going out and got in a little trouble. Oh well… I met my husband because of it. Sometimes you have to break the rules and live a little!
I ended up dating a different guy during the time Jake and I were friends, since I had no idea Jake liked me. As soon the other guy and I broke up, I ended up telling Jake my feelings and it’s been happily ever after from there.
How we got engaged
May 4, 2013 was a very special day for many reasons. Jake and I both graduated from Oklahoma State University, and it was also the day Jake asked me to be his wife. After OSU graduation was over we were planning on meeting up with our families at Theta Pond to take pictures. If you have never been to OSU, it’s a really pretty pond in the center of campus. On the way to Theta Pond, we passed through a pretty garden and, little did I know, Jake was about to pop the question. The proposal started with Jake talking about how he couldn’t believe we just graduated and how we have made so many memories at OSU. I noticed Jake was starting to get choked up and he was talking about the next chapter of our lives. He then went on to say “we might as well make one more memory at OSU”. He got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. It was the perfect moment and was very symbolic. May 4th was one of the best days of my life for many reasons.
Wedding/ Married Life
June 28, 2014 was the BEST day of my life. It was the day my husband and I became one! We got married on my husband’s birthday per his request because “it would be the best birthday present.” It was such a whirlwind of a day! I had been planning my wedding ever since I could remember, and the day had finally arrived. Check out our wedding feature on D Weddings Real Weddings. Right after the wedding of our dreams, we went on the honeymoon of our dreams in Bora Bora. Soon after, we moved to a new city where my husband started medical school. Married life has been my greatest journey!
