Happy Thursday! You may have seen in my last post that Jake and I visited Nashville over the weekend. With it only being a 3 hour drive and him having the weekend off, it was a no-brainer for us. On the way home from Nashville, we made one last stop in Franklin. It had been recommended to me by at least 3 other bloggers, and we also heard how nice it was from one of his coworkers who grew up there.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know I love to map out our trips. I get really “type A” and plan every detail of the trip to maximize our time. Most of our trips are short, so every second counts. During this trip, we had planned to go to Biscuit Love in The Gulch on Saturday. We knew it would be packed, but we were ready to wait. However, when we arrived, they said it was a 1.5-2 hour wait. I decided that wasn’t the best use of our time, no matter how great it’s supposed to be.
One of my blogger friends, a Nashville local, said to go to the one in Franklin instead. We switched our Sunday brunch reservation to Saturday and rearranged several activities on our schedule. On Sunday as we headed back home from Cheekwood Garden and Estates, we stopped by Franklin. Franklin is actually just south of Nashville and conveniently on the way to Birmingham down Highway 65, so it worked out perfectly for us. We finally got our Biscuit Love fix, too. Biscuit Love is open until 3 p.m., so we arrived just a little before 3 for a late lunch/early dinner. Since it was such a random time of day, there was no line at all. We split The Wash Park Biscuit (buttermilk biscuit, 2 beef burger patties, pimento cheese, bacon jam and an egg). We also split the bonuts (fried biscuit donut, topped with lemon mascarpone, served over blueberry compote). It was all seriously incredible. Now I see why the line is out the door in The Gulch location. We will definitely be back, but will plan to visit this same location. The Franklin location is actually in a historic house, so it was very charming. They have 3 locations now.
After our delicious meal, we walked around in the darling downtown area. Biscuit Love is just around the corner from downtown Franklin, so we didn’t even have to move our car. Downtown has many other restaurants that sounded great and other local shops. It did have several chain stores, but I loved that overall it’s mostly unique galleries, antique shops and boutiques. Next time we go to Nashville, I would love to spend a whole day there. Franklin was a key site of the American Civil War, so there is a lot of history and things to see.
Although we loved traveling last weekend, we’re so excited to stay in Birmingham and explore our own city. We also plan to also tackle several home projects that have been on our list since after we moved.
Stay tuned, I’ll share a full guide of what we did/where we ate on this trip to Nashville next week.
How fun! Those biscuits sound SO amazing. Definitely up our alley.
