The older I get, the more I gravitate toward classic pieces for my own wardrobe. What makes a classic wardrobe, you may ask? When I think of a classic wardrobe, the first thing that comes to mind is Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Her style was so classic and will never go out of style.
To me, a classic is something that is always in style season after season, year after year. It stands the test of time and is something you don’t get tired of. When it comes to my wardrobe, I always find I go back to my classics when I feel like I have “nothing to wear”. Let’s be real y’all, this is something that happens a lot. After buying a lot of trendy items, I’m realizing now that I need to invest in high quality basics. When creating a work wardrobe, this is something I especially do.
3 Basics For Creating A Classic Look:
- Blazer: One of my favorite classic wardrobe pieces is a blazer. I picked The Perfect Ponte Blazer from Talbots because it’s tailored, effortless, and flattering. It comes in several colors, but I was in need of a gray one. My favorite part is that, if you roll up the sleeves, there is a fun pattern.
- Pumps: I was in need of some good pumps that are classic but fun. I have been wearing these on repeat because they’re actually really comfortable and classy.
- Skinny Ankle Jeans: I have a lot of trouble finding good skinny jeans. I love these because they’re comfortable and well-made.
Whether you’re going to work, church or just trying to dress a look up, blazers can instantly change an outfit up. Wearing these 3 basics helps create an easy, effortless, and classic look. I’ve worn this outfit twice recently; once with a red bag to add a pop of color, and then with a neutral large bag to fit all of my daily essentials.
Which is your favorite way I wore it?
I’ve been all about the blazers lately too!! They are so timeless and I also need the extra warmth for my classroom haha! You look so great in this!

Me too! I am trying to start investing in staples vs. trendy. I will still do trendy some, but staples are so important too. Blazers really are so great. They take an outfit that would maybe not be church or work appropriate to being appropriate.
Lately I have been noticing that a light color blazer over an all black outfit being worn by lots of bloggers. I don’t normally shop at Talbot’s. Do their clothes run true to size? What size are you wearing?

Hi Kim! Yes, it’s a pretty big trend right now. 🙂 Blazers are especially huge. I didn’t start shopping at Talbot’s until I started working in the business world, but their pieces are great quality and hold up well. Their sizes do run a little large I will say. I am wearing a 2 in everything. In most brands I am a 4. These jeans work with well for women with hips, which is nice. I have trouble with finding pants a lot of times for the reason.
I definitely need to invest in an adorable pair of pumps! I love them and don’t wear them often enough. Depending on their style, you’re right!! They can be such classics that go with so any different outfits.

Yes you do! I don’t have many pumps because my feet are so sensitive. These luckily are really comfortable. I walked all around downtown Birmingham and wasn’t in pain like I normally am.
I really need to invest in a blazer. I really like that you can either dress it up or dress it down or take a simple look and make it amazing.

Yes!! I love blazers for that reason. 🙂 It also helps take something that wouldn’t be appropriate to appropriate for some events due to it being a tank top dress for example.
I don’t have any of these! 😆 I need to step up my game.

Haha there are so many basics that I don’t have too. We can’t have them all, right? 😉
Me too! Classic pieces are usually timeless and not to mention versatile!

You are so sweet! Thank you.
Hi Courtney, a blazer is a great way to make a classic piece work! I love the black jeans with it and the fun cami. Cute pumps too to dress it up. I like the neutral bag for work as it will hold a lot of stuff for your day , but the red bag is great for going out to lunch. See what you think of Bonnie in my dress of the week post, https://terrigirlblog.wordpress.com/2018/09/22/dress-of-the-week-september-22nd-hello-bonnie/ Take care, Terri xo.
