As soon as I found out I was pregnant, Jake and I were anxious to find out Baby Byers’ gender. We both had no preference on the gender and ultimately have prayed for a healthy baby. My doctor’s office doesn’t offer finding out the gender until your anatomy scan between 18-20 weeks. Of course, I couldn’t wait, so I went to a local place called 4D Mommies. They offer the SneakPeek Early Gender DNA blood test that can determine the gender as soon as 8 weeks. The blood test is 99.1% accurate and tests the baby’s DNA that circulates in the mom’s blood to determine the baby’s gender. I went in at 11 weeks after my first OB appointment. Based on Jake and my gut feelings, we both thought Baby Byers was a boy. In fact, we would call the baby a boy. I am now 18 weeks and just had my anatomy ultrasound on Tuesday. Although the blood test is very accurate, I wanted to confirm with the ultrasound before I shared on here.
Gender Predictions Based on Old Wives’ Tales:
While Jake emphasizes that wives’ tales are 100% not medically accurate at all, I still had fun trying to guess the gender based on them.
Chinese Calendar: says boy
Baby’s Heart Rate: has usually been over 140, which says girl.
Mom’s Cravings: salty/savory, In particular my biggest cravings have been breakfast foods like bagels, waffles with peanut butter, eggs, also pizza, ranch dressing and cheese. I enjoy sweet foods, but haven’t been overly craving them. According to the wives’ tales, this means baby would be a boy.
Morning Sickness: No, thankfully. I was nauseous when I woke up everyday during my first trimester, but it was mild. This says boy.
Dad’s Weight: Maintain; Jake hasn’t gained weight, but he has developed quite the sweet tooth lately which is funny to me. He doesn’t normally get that excited about sweets. Maintaining says boy.
Mom’s Emotions: Happy, which says boy. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier honestly.
Mom’s Skin: Glowing, overall my skin has been pretty good. If I don’t wash my face I break out, but other than that it’s been very clear. This says boy.
Headaches: Yes, I’ve had a few which says boy.
Carrying: Low, it’s still early and I’ve just started to get a little bump, but I seem to be carrying low. This says boy.
Intuition: Boy- Jake and I 100% both guessed boy.
Current Age + Month of Conception: The sum of these numbers is even, which says boy
Sleeping side: Right side, this says girl
Based on wives’ tales, Baby Byers would be a boy.
Baby Byers’ gender blood test results came back on Halloween night. The sweet lady at 4D Mommies made the experience so special for us. I told her I really wanted to find out with Jake with a confetti popper, so we could record a video to send our parents. She gave us two poppers, each labeled with a letter. We had SneakPeek email her the results and as soon as they came in she texted us to use the “K” popper. Since it was nighttime and we couldn’t wait until the next day, we popped the popper inside our house. Pink confetti came exploding out! We were both so surprised to find out Baby Byers is a baby girl. We are just so overjoyed and cannot wait for this next adventure. I always thought I would have all boys since I am so girly. Everyone else has guessed she was a girl though. We’ve slowly started picking out her nursery décor and I cannot wait to share once it’s all done. Jake says, “oh no, this is going to be expensive.” He’s not wrong! We are still finding the pink confetti in our kitchen and probably will for months still!
